In Memory

Kenneth Shapiro

Kenneth Shapiro

Ken was hospitalized in October, 2020.. He was diagnosed with pneumonia.  After various scans they also found he had leukemia.  Apparently his heart stopped several times and that was the cause, not COVID.

Here is a link to a web site about Ken's passing:

We are having a Zoom service for Ken, this Sunday at 6pm..the link is below, (below the photo)
**Remember** it is daylight Savings Time switching day!!! Fall Back!
It is staggering to me to realize how many people his life touched, and how deeply powerful his connection was to them.  I have heard from distant corners of the earth,  from his friends reaching out to grieve with me and celebrate the way Ken impacted their lives.  These connections bring forward both sadness but also joy, because I can see that he was swift to send love kindness compassion empathy, and thus had such a powerful  impact on so many.

I miss him every minute, and I keep reaching out to call him, to send him photos, to check in. It chills me at those moments when instantly the recognition of absence appears. I must then dig deep into the arms of those around me, to honor Ken, and also to honor the love from his connections.

Many of you have specifically asked about Freema.. What words can offer solace to a mothers loss?  At 105 (almost) she is very clear about this loss.  I can see the pain veiled upon her face, yet, miraculously, she smiles and says..  "I'm handling this" .

Rabbi Elaine Zecher is inviting you to this zoom room for the Funeral for Kenneth

Ken was a really good guy.  We were friends all through school and I remember, fondly,  spending time at his home with him, his brother and parents.

He was also the toughest of guys, especially on the football field where his size was unimportant.  He 'brought it' on every play.

It has been some time since we last spoke and I'm sorry that I won't have the chance to talk with him again.

May his memory be for a blessing!

Sorry to hear of Ken's passing. I swam with him on the swimming team. He swam the back stroke and I the breast stroke. Our Medley team were undefeated in 1960. He swam first and I hit the water when he finished the first leg. He really was a great athlete. "Tough as nails." Than you for keeing us posted.

Ken and I were on the football & swimming teams together.  He and I swam the same event, so there was a friendly competition. Thoughout the time we were together, he was a tough competitor during the game but a real class act off the field.

I have fond memories of Ken who lived a few houses away. I remember him as a solid, good person. I was saddened to hear of his sudden passing. Arn

I knew Ken mostly from sports, both in and out of school. The outside games of “touch” football were rough and tumble in a bonding way. I always enjoyed his infectious smile and good humor, often expressed through a powerhouse of energy. I recall/feel that energy as I write. My condolences to his family and loved ones.

One of my fondest memories of Ken was hitching a ride back to his house when he borrowed his brothers 1964 Chevy Corvette, after football practice.  I'd rode to his house. hang around for a while, and most often disappointingly walk home as the Corvette was no longer available to Ken.  Worth the walk.

Ken was a good athlete and a fun guy to be around.

Ken and I were good friends in high school. Football and track brought us together.
But it was much more than that. He was a class act and true friend.
I remember Ken as a tough offensive lineman. He was small for that position but when he pulled on a running
play he opened big holes for me as a running back.
Although I haven't seen Ken in years I'm saddened by his passing.
Sincere condolences to Ken's family and loved ones.
